When many teeth are missing, worn, broken or failing, fixing them one at a time rarely works. Full mouth rehabilitation rebuilds your whole bite with one coordinated plan, restoring how your teeth look, feel and function.
At Melrose Advanced Dentistry in Johannesburg North, we plan and carry out complete rehabilitations using 3D CBCT imaging, complete digital planning, dental implants, crowns, bridges and dentures, with in-house sedation for all surgical and implant procedures.
What Is Full Mouth Rehabilitation?
Full mouth rehabilitation is a treatment plan that restores most or all of the teeth in one or both jaws. It combines several treatments, such as extractions, implants, crowns and gum treatment, in the right order, so the end result is a healthy, stable and comfortable bite.
Fixed Teeth on Implants (All-on-X)
If most of your teeth are failing or missing, a full arch of fixed teeth can be supported on four to six implants per jaw. Read more about All-on-X dental implants and All-on-4 vs All-on-6. Where bone is very limited, zygomatic implants may avoid the need for bone grafting.
Crowns, Bridges and Dentures
Not every rehabilitation needs implants. Worn or broken teeth can be rebuilt with crowns, gaps filled with bridges, and removable or implant-supported dentures used where they suit you best. See our prosthodontics and veneers and crowns pages.
- Many missing teeth
- Several failing or loose teeth
- Severely worn teeth from grinding or acid erosion
- Multiple broken teeth or old, failing restorations
- Uncomfortable or loose dentures
- Jaw pain or bite problems
- Wanting to replace dentures with fixed teeth
If any of these apply, a full assessment will show which options are possible for you.
Your Treatment Journey
Every plan is personal, but most rehabilitations follow these stages:
- Consultation and 3D CBCT X-ray scan
- Complete digital treatment planning
- A written treatment plan and itemised quote
- Treating gum disease and infection first
- Extractions and implant placement, with sedation
- Temporary teeth while you heal
- Final crowns, bridges or fixed teeth
- Regular maintenance visits
You can see completed cases in our implant reconstruction gallery.
3D CBCT Scans and Digital Planning
Every full mouth rehabilitation starts with a 3D CBCT (cone beam CT) X-ray. Unlike a standard X-ray, a CBCT scan shows your jawbone, nerves and sinuses in three dimensions, so we can measure exactly how much bone is available and where implants can be placed safely.
We then plan your treatment completely digitally, from implant positions to the shape and size of your new teeth, before any treatment begins. Digital planning makes surgery more precise and predictable, and lets you see the plan for your new smile in advance.
Comfortable Treatment with Sedation
We provide in-house sedation for all surgical and implant procedures, so you can be relaxed throughout. More complex surgery can be done under general anaesthetic.
Medical Aid and Costs
We claim directly from your medical aid for all surgical and implant procedures, so you don’t have to submit claims yourself. Cover varies between schemes, so check your plan’s benefits. Before treatment starts, you receive a written, itemised quote for every stage.
Why Plan the Whole Mouth Together
Treating teeth one by one without a plan can lead to an uneven bite, repeated failures and higher costs over time. A full plan makes sure every tooth, implant and restoration works together, which is better for your long-term oral health.
